IMANI Fashion Show

Kameron Locke was invited to create and artistically direct a performance for the first IMANI Fashion Show 2023 in Luxembourg. IMANI was established to create space for Black women in Luxembourg’s emerging fashion industry. For this performance, he reimagined Nina Simone’s Four Women, approaching this emotionally tense and challenging depiction of Black women from a narrator's vantage point. Producing new music, this 5-act rendition incorporated recorded readings of Simone’s tragic and painful lyrics and of his poem response to the song, which reflected the resiliency, perseverance, pride, and multiplicities of Black womanhood. Opening, in intervals throughout, and closing with the voices of Black women, he narrated through song as the women shared their stories.
